On Saturday we photographed the wedding of Annette and Graham. Annette and Graham have been together 17years and engaged for 16 of them, because of this they were not wanting your traditional wedding but instead wanted a wedding that was full of fun and entertainment, mainly so all their friends and family could just have a great time whilst celebrating. They chose The Horn of Plenty, the venue is near Tavistock and is known for its stunning views and great food. They liked the fact that getting married there you could hire the whole venue, this enabled them to have something for the guests to enjoy through out the gardens and also meant they could all stay too!
For us the day started at 10.30, we arrived and started by photographing Annette and her bridesmaids getting ready. Annette had her daughter, step daughter, daughter in law and ‘adopted’ daughter as her bridesmaids, along with her grand daughter as a flower girl. The girls looked fantastic with Alice Mortimore doing both their hair and make up, we see Alice at a lot of our weddings and she never fails to do a great job. At 11.30 Amy went down to photograph the start of the fun and games in the garden, this was the time that the Laser Clay Shooting, Pistol Shooting and Archery all began which meant Graham and the groomsmen were able to start having a bit of fun. The groomsmen consisted of his son, step son ,son in law and step son in law. As well as the boys, guests too were invited to come early and amuse themselves on the lawns by taking part in the activities, with a magician also there to entertain them. Slowly as the girls were ready they came down (not with their dresses on yet!) and joined in with all the fun also.
The ceremony was at 2pm and again carried on the theme of the day in being relaxed yet fun. They had done their own vows which was an enjoyable way for them to make it more personal and for Graham to add a bit of humour – this seemed to happen a lot all day long!
After the ceremony canapés and drinks were had in the garden whilst we took the group and posed photos. The sun shone behind some light cloud which was the exact weather we love to have when taking staged photos.
We left them to eat their meal at 4pm and had a wonderful time being able to sit in the garden to enjoy the sunshine. We were later lucky enough to be brought out a lovely meal of Sea Bass, as I mentioned earlier The Horn of Plenty is well known for its food and it did not disappoint.
After having our superb meal we ventured back inside for the speeches. I half knew Graham was going to make his speech rather humorous and he certainly did, it’s always good fun to be photographing a room full of people laughing and enjoying themselves.
They were entertained by the Swing Kings in the evening who also sang their first dance, we love it when we get to hear them at weddings as they are great fun as well as being very talented.
All in all a great day that we were privileged to have been part of.
